About a decade ago, Luis Alvarez, a Nobel Prize winner and his son Walter Alvarez, a geologist shocked the world with a new theory to explain why the dinosaurs disappeared from the face of the earth. They claimed that an asteroid, 10 kms wide, thundered into the earth 66 million years ago making large number of animals including the dinosaurs extinct. Scientists have proposed many theories for the dinosaur’s extinction. These include volcanic eruptions, vast forest fires, and acid rain.
